‘Thursday is the new Doomsday’ now with added Riff!!!

As if you lot don’t get spoiled enough… it has come to my attention that you indeed are not! So, the only way to rectify that situation is by giving you more riff for your pound in the next WPC event in April!

The amazing Profane and the Sacred shall be supplying an added crunch to the evenings proceedings with their dirty groove that reminds me of something between Corrosion of Conformity and Alice and chains… i think all are going to be blown away by these lot. If you doubt me check them out below:

Stubb – Self Titled‏

This is another one of those releases that I feel needs to be adequately ranted about the minute it arrives as it is extremely frustrating listening to how horrifically talented these guys are, and this album really does sound like a perfect slice of the 70s which is a perfect start to a chilling Monday morning. After coming across Stubb some time back on the Dopefight album launch I must admit they did go somewhat under the radar at the time but it was after becoming horrifically attached to the songs of Trippy Wicked that I went on the hunt for anything I could get my hands on that was crafted by Pete and Chris. The first Stubb EP was very “lo-fi” so to hear these songs recorded to such a high standard is a real treat and I know for a fact that it will not be leaving my playlist for quite some time. Each song covers a different mood from the initial building stomp and groove of ‘Road’ and ‘Scale the Mountain’ leading to a much more ambient and trippy (unavoidable pun link!) sound of the final songs ‘Crying River’ and ‘Galloping horses’ It comes as no surprise that they sound so good seeing as they were lovingly mixed and mastered by Tony Reed of Stone Axe fame (whom they shall be touring alongside later this year!) who certainly is a man with an ear for all things Psych and retro.

Right that’s all I am going to say! RANT OVER, JUST BUY IT or LISTEN TO IT AND BUY IT!! And see their cracking video below:

Orange Goblin – Red Tide Rising video

If you have been living in a hole for the past few weeks you may have not realised that the amazing Goblin lot are about to release a new Album ‘A Eulogy For The Damned’ on February 14th and this is the first song to come from that very album! It is based on the themes of H.P. Lovecraft and features some very nice animation parts for all you creatively minded people out there.

So have a look and lets also help these lovely lot get to No. 1 in our shitty UK album charts please…. more about that here!

yet another reason to get excited…’Thursday is the new Doomsday’

Coming this Spring just after the excitement of Desertfest has left you feeling a little lost, comes the first ever weekday jaunt from WPC. Start your weekend early with the first ever ‘Thursday is the new doomsday’ and to start this event with a bang we have 3 very nasty little examples of sludgy tastiness.

SUBSILENCE start the night with their very unique blend of foot tapping doom, recently having some very cracking reviews form the likes of terrorizer. Their blend of brooding doom and monstrous vocals are sure to start the night off correctly!

JACKNIFE HOLIDAY truly are a fantastic blend of iron monkey style riffery yet with that faster more punk edge. these guys have supported some damn good bands and blend in perfectly with the NOLA scene, and whats more they even appeard at last years Download festival!

and finally the mighty gargantuan of a band that is DIESEL KING, they have spent the time since appearing at last years WPC January event perfecting their sound and what this band have become is an all together bigger, badder and bolder beast! I really can’t wait to unleash this band onto the unsuspecting South London crowd!

Red Fang – Hank is Dead video

Anyone who has access to the internet would have somehow come across one of the stupidly hilarious and original videos for Red Fang’s previous efforts of ‘Wires’ and ‘Prehistoric Dog’ and some may say that it has helped their popularity somewhat too. Whatever the thought is i am sure a great number of you reading this now have a ticket to see them on the up and coming Mastodon tour and personally i can’t miss it, so i shall be in the queue hours before the doors open to the Brixton Academy to make sure that i do not miss a single second of their set!

For now though, sit back and enjoy yet another hilarious offering from the hairy lads. The video for ‘Hank is Dead’:

Time to wish your life away…. its the WPC Summer Sizzler!!

Kroh – Self Titled

This band is yet another in a long line of creations from Paul Kenney arguably one of the hardest working blokes in the underground music scene at the moment. In my opinion he has been part of some of the greatest bands in the country namely Fukpig and Mistress. And has help produce works from family member Mick, who is one half of the excellent Anaal Nathrakh. These Birmingham residents really have a massive part in creating some truly filthy grind and crust records and Kroh is no exception.

The guitar sound is so incredibly ‘Paul’ sounding you can tell it is one of his horrific creations from the moment the first note is played. But the main difference here is the vocal stylings of a Mr Francis Anthony who has made this release and entirely new thing. Very reminiscent of Depeche Mode or Paradise Lost his vocal skills have made this album a million times more melodic and dare I say it “accessible’” than the necropunk sound that has been coming out of the Devises studio of late. It is both beautiful and disgusting with the welcome addition of some very nice orchestral elements, particularly on song “How I Wish”.

This is a real treat of an album and one that would be loved by any fan of the heavier things in life but probably best suited to a more relaxing time of the week, perhaps whilst horribly hungover on a Sunday afternoon. Buy this, you will not be disappointed and whats more they have some beautiful purple vinyl up for grabs on their big cartel site!

Stand out track: Heaving Earth

Palehorse – Shit Columbo video

Anyone who came to the second ever WPC night back in November 2010 would have been lucky enough to see this band headline. I was so happy to have such an outstandingly devastating band play and i was even happier to see that they have released this new video for the song ‘Shit Columbo’ taken from their recent album ‘Soft as Butter, Hard as Ice’

It appears that the footage was lifted from their recent jaunt around the UK at the end of last year…. Brilliant stuff!!

What to expect on January 14th…..
