ONE MORE…….

So, tomorrow it is finally IBYM mirror at Alexandra Palace and we all know that its all about just one band….

Don’t get me wrong its a killer lineup and i am very looking forward to sharing a beer with many a friend to some of the best bands around but its not often you get to see Matt Pike and chums is it!!

EXCITED MUCH!!!

Limb – Demo‏

Wow, this sounds bloody disgusting! New London band Limb have hit the right note here with a refreshingly filthy sound to their first 3 track demo. Its unhealthily crusty bass and guitar sound I have not heard since early Weedeater yet they have the crushing groove of bands like Goatsnake, and upon hearing this EP I rushed out to catch them live at the Windmill earlier this year and Live they are even more impressing.

Now the live sound does seem very different to this recording which is a little bit of a shame BUT my god are they good and their drummer is enough to stop any man in their tracks! There is something to be said about a young lady tearing seven shades of Shit out of a kit and overall I think this lot are ones to watch.

They are already sharing bills with some impressive bands within the scene and I hope this demo is followed up with something else very soon, come listen and love here.

Widows – Death Valley Duchess‏

I had always initially written off Widows as just another Clutch style band (this was without actually listening to any of it) and gradually over the years had various opportunities to catch these Nottingham lads live, they have always been a overly energetic live act with Lead singer chucking the microphone around like it was constructed of molten lead! But my god this band is so much more. Yes, sure the vocals are very preachy in the stylings of the lord that is Neil Fallon but there is something about the way that he slips in and out of the British/American accent that seems to really work for me.

This is the first full length from Widows since the initial EP ‘Raise the Monolith’ and it does have that nice Clutch vibe to it but certain songs on this album like ‘Kiss of Failure’ tip the sound over the edge of Stoner territory and in to that of a more Metallic Punk vibe which does give you a bit of a break from the norm. But with the whole collection of songs the music itself is fantastically produced and nicely balanced; it really is a record for sticking on full blast whilst driving along in your fiat Panda (but actually feeling like your driving a Chevy Camaro!!)

I don’t know if this has been done yet but someone really needs to stick these fellas on a bill alongside XII Boar as they sound like they were born to rock out as filthy desert fuelled allies…..

Have a listen to this beast of a record right here, and pick yourself up a CD whilst your at it!

Dopefight/Gurt Release Show – First support bands!!

I can’t keep stuff quiet for long and as its a night for pairing these 2 Brum Titans, i thought why not announce 2 bands!! WE all played together in Birmingham December last year but we thought its about time the Windmill saw the sheer power of Alunah and Shebrew

Alunah are soon to be releasing their brand new album and shall be playing many a show across the country in support of what is no doubt going to be a game changing album, this female fronted monolith coming to the Windmill for the very first time!

With Shebrew currently playing shows off the back of their new EP ‘Provenance’ this truly is a pleasure to have them come join the ranks of the WPC bands that have the ability to blow the roof (dog) off the Brixton Windmill.

Thats it for now, but more to be announced next week…..
