So, this is it…. the final icing on the cake (or meat on the BBQ) in the form of our very good friends from STEAK!!!!!
What a perfect way to keep heads nodding and people bouncing than the desert styling of the mighty Steak, a perfect accompaniment to the days proceedings and bringing the band total to 8… this is once again a massive day of music and funtimes!
…and once again Staggerin Matt from Human Disease shall be bringing in the early hours and my 30th Birthday with some evil tunes (so feel free to bring along a birthday gift if you feel the need!)
There is never enough merch especially for women is something that i here way too often (and something i am addressing for my own band GURT) but it appears that the good old chaps in XII Boar are thinking of the ladies and not just in the sexual sense. They are also very thoughtful lads and have created these great tote bags so that the finer sex can go out and do some shopping and that!
Now before i get shouted at for being too sexist i am going to sign off but if you want one of these or some of their other fine merch you can find it here.
This time its the turn of the mighty Dopefight and never before has a band churned out so much consistantly good merch (perhaps a slight exaggeration but hey!)
And with the design, this time its the turn of the God like Rik Mayall to be immortalised on their shirts, if you need an example to see why Rik is one of the greatest people alive today see below. This comes along side a handful of other new shirts including a brand new upside down cross design, come check em out here.
Earlier on in the year we had these South American chaps over to visit our little island at Desertfest and as i was looking after the Purple Turtle where they performed i had the chance to meet these thoroughly nice guys and see a very entertaining set. They were very brooding and atmospheric and reminded me of several bands, the obvious soundalikes would be bands like Neurosis, Isis, earlier Mastodon and that general ilk. I know they may have heard this before but there is a lot of similarities between this and ‘Roots’ era Sepultura too!
The record ‘El mal del bien’ is a damn fine offering of horrifically heavy music but they describe themselves as Sludge, and personally i feel the production level is incredibly high and takes away the raw almost garage like quality that i associate with Sludge. This album does not match the filthiness and sheer agression that you get from albums like ‘Obedience Thru Suffering’ which is a perfect example of where Sludge began…
I am in no way knocking this album as i love it and do appreciate the high level of craftsmanship put together by these lads but if you are a fan of bands like Weedeater this is probably not for you, but have a look below at a video from this years Desertfest and you will see a damn fine example and an incredibly heavy band!
As a special treat from GURT, people who were there from the start of yesterdays spectacular Summer Sizzler (of which there were a fair few) were treated to a surprise cover of fellow Sludgers Iron Witch‘s song ‘Booze Blues’, here it is in all its glory!
This weekend is the long awaited Summer Sizzler at the Windmill Brixton and apart from the obvious wonderfulness that is the humble BBQ we also have 8 of the greatest Doom/Sludge and generally filthy bands on the scene right now all together under one roof, see what these horrible lot have to offer below:
One of my most favoured bands here at WPC have decided to embrace the world of downloads and release some of their greatest stuff for a very low price of 99p (or if your like me you will be more generous and pay them more for this amazing release). This is the first collection of songs that they produced on an 8 track back in 2002 and for the first time you can hear this full length album, now just release the bloody thing on vinyl now please, especially as it has some damn fine artwork to boot!
Why yes indeed, the perfect way to start a Saturday morning is with some more Bendal filth, expect to feel extremely un-nerved and to not particularly fall in love with the character that is ‘Ron Salmon’ but we would not want it any other way from these crusty thrashy lovers from Liverpool and whats more its only a week now until the Summer Sizzler where you can see these fellas tear the Windmill up early in the proceedings!!
…I have been fairly quiet of late as i have had the pleasure to be off to some festivals over the last 2 weeks, the best of which involved catching up with some of my fave lads from both Diesel King and Iron Witch at Hellfest 2012 in Clisson, France.
Turns out they love a good prank and heres some footage of a little something we got up to whilst away, Bill got Mark good and proper!!!
Unfortunately all our holiday fun is now over but we saw some damn fine bands, now its just 10 days until the Summer Sizzler, Hooray!!
… anyone who was at this years Download festival this past weekend would have seen these little beauties up around the site! I am really happy to say that WPC will be involved again and its gonna be BIGGER and BETTER!
