Slabdragger/Meadows – Split

I love Meadows and I love Slabdragger but as with every split release there is one band that seems to have the the added popularity or overshadows the other involved party, and in this case Slabdragger definitely are that band.

THAT RIFF shall be going round and round my head for weeks and from the very beginning i am hooked, the song ‘Alchemistress’ is the most psychotically trippy thing i have heard in ages and THANK FUCK its on Vinyl as you can hear every little note perfectly crystal clear and its that, that makes the atmospherics of this mental piece of work so masterful! Thankfully they don’t hold up and their other offering ‘Burden’ is equally spellbinding, especially the final part of the song which just comes at you like the final frantic few pulls of a particularly nasty wank! The good thing about doing this on a 12″ is that this is a good 30 minutes of music, BUT the boys in Slabdragger are a band that need to get to work quick and give us another album as this is only going to hold back their rabid fans hunger for so long….

As for the Meadows side, they are a very different beast and it really does give you a chance to peel yourself off the ceiling and get down to some good old humour filled sludgy punk… and with lyrics like ‘Hey baby, i live in my car. Eat from your bins, i piss in a jar!’ you know you are in the presence of a band that really don’t give a fuck and are having a damn good time doing so!

Cultfinder – Black Thrashing Terror

I found out about the nasty little buggers that are Cultfinder quite some time back and bought their first release on cassette tape and its was truly inspiring stuff.. the crackly tape sound and low budget recording really only made the crusty blackened punk of this band more enjoyable… So, it was good to see that they are back again with this release and this time on sexy Vinyl!

Its nice filthy fast fun and whats more comes with some damn cracking artwork to boot (and if you have yourself a nice battle jacket, you get get yourself a nice vinyl and patch offer for a mere £6.66), if you really like your black metal thrashy then its a sure fire win!

Heres a nice video of them performing at the Bull and Gate. which if you weren’t there, was a fucking cracking time:

BLOODSTOCK 2012

I was asked once again this to write a small review for PRS for Music’s ‘M Magazine’ here is a sneek peak of that review before it goes up on their site later this week….

‘This year was the third time that PRS for Music returned to Bloodstock festival and with pretty much the same staff returning for those years they really do treat us like part of the team now and we feel very lucky to be part of an amazing and unique event.

What is now around 12,000 people attending the festival it still has a very intimate feel except now you have heavy metal titans like Behemoth, Machine Head and the ever shocking Alice Cooper headlining the weekend, which for a family run event of this size truly is an amazing example of how great the team is and how we are very fortunate to have such a festival in the UK.

Working over 4 stages our team found the friendly faces of the staff and the enthusiasm of the bands a pleasure to work with and ensured that we had our work done quickly and giving us time to enjoy some damn impressive acts such as Hatebreed, The Black Dahlia Murder, Dripback and many more. And quite possibly the best element of the festival is the ‘New Blood’ stage which showcases some mighty fine young bands that have come from all of the UK after winning competitions to battle out for a place to open ‘Wacken 2013’ festival in Germany. There were some great acts that deserved to win but if I had to choose one it would be the might of Bull Riff Stampede who not only had the biggest crowd of the weekend in the tent but also had festival promoter Simon Hall starting a pretty magnificent circle pit!

No other festival has such a unique bill with breakfast being accompanied by some nasty grind inspired thrash (Courtesy of the Benediction Breakfast Club!) or epic fist raising power metal it has something for every extreme music fan. And with the bands and fans being of a similar ilk, it’s not rare to see members of your favourite group sat alongside you whilst watching some of their favourite artists themselves! Its all little touches like this that just make it so special and ensure that we shall no doubt be attending year on year!

RAISE YOUR HORNS AND TOAST TO BLOODSTOCK AND SEE YOU ALL IN 2013!!’

7 Bands you MUST check out at this weekends BLOODSTOCK FESTIVAL….

So the Metal Festival of the year is coming up this very weekend and i seems to be getting better and better for us filthier music fans every year! YES it still has LOADS of thrash bands and YES it still has LOADS of strange bands thats logo’s seem completely undecipherable BUT this is the beauty of the festival and the very reason why it is a gem in our generally rather dull metal festival calender….

There is a hell of alot of goodness this year but here are WPC’s Favorite 7 In no particular order:

CROWBAR

ANAAL NATHRAKH

ORANGE GOBLIN

BULL RIFF STAMPEDE

COSMIC VORTEX OF DOOM

DRIPBACK

BENEDICTION

SEE Y’ALL THERE!!!!
