ENOS are back! And with things as they are being predicted, I am glad that I have had the chance to listen to this before the end of the world. In fact, I hope I am listening to this record as it’s all crumbling around me as this is a perfect accompaniment for a relaxed participant in the apocalypse.

Its got all the sort of references that I thought I would never hear in an album this year but was so refreshed to, the swagger of Viking Skull with the track ‘All Too Human’, the ambience of Pink Floyd with the track ‘Collisions’ and even little nods to Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds with their amazing choice of samples and subject matter. Its really got it all and having heard a small selection of the songs live already I really cannot wait to get them back in The Windmill this coming February where they will be main support on the Sunday. This album is officially out tomorrow so make sure you have those headphones on when the Mayans are proven right as listening to this collection of songs would make the passing so much more enjoyable!

Thats right people, 2013 sees Sludge Bluesters GURT and Necropunks FUKPIG join forces to release what will surely be one of the most horrific splits of 2013! To be released by one of the British undergrounds best small labels DEVIZES RECORDS (Previous release include KROH amongst others)..

Some may say i am a little late on this one but upon finding out that there was a tape release coming of UNDERSMILE‘s new opus i just had to wait. There is something about this album that is lifted by the Low-fi quality style of a good old fashioned cassette tape. I have bloody big speakers to run it through but sat listening to this is like having an hour of torture. And in DAMN GOOD WAY! It truly is a magnificent bit of work with the slow and painfully brutal riffs piling up and the horrific chant like surmon being conducted by Taz and Hel that feels like something like the sound track to the upcoming ‘Lords of salem’, nasty songs to fuel a Witch hunt!!!

It has really made me feel somewhat uncorfortable and for that i praise them all, This really was worth the wait!

If you, like me are a fan of both this band and old skool tapes, you are out of luck BUT the CD is still available…. GET YOURS HERE!

Its Riff’o’clock in MAGE world, in fact its Riff’o’clock all day everyday… unrelenting riffs piled up higher than the bloody empire state building and then some! This band don’t just wear their influences on their sleeve, they wear them as a bloody armoured chest plate with a million un-removable padlocks!! You can hear all the obvious comparisons in there and its this that is their strength.

The only thing that i find a little problem with this is that it feels a little too long, its only 10 tracks but does feel long. Maybe this is because the riffs are never ending and it would be nice to break it up a bit with some varied stylings. Perhaps a nice little acoustic number or something, i don’t know but it does drag a little for me. That being said though, its a stormer of an album and i guess it the sort that will not be breaking boundaries but it will certainly be highly praised and loved by our nice little stoner community. So go get a copy, pop it in your car stereo and run over some country wildlife as its certainly a choice cut for creating some roadkill at high speeds!

BLOODLUNG are a nasty little Welsh powerhouse of a band, with one foot in the sludge camp and other in the more metallic/hardcore camp. There is lot to like about this little EP offering especially the nice little intro that leads into a false sense of security! You expect some pub style blues band to come after that but instead its a kick in the cunt for you and the heaviness commences, its short and sweet in length but isn’t every bands first EP as its always hard to get the funds to record a full length in the early days.

the biggest treat on this offering is the “secret track” which is a rather magnificent cover of ‘Where did you sleep last night’ which may be quite a popular track for bands to make their own BUT this stripped down stomper of a rendition is a real success. I like my covers like this and i think this Demo offers real promise, definately a band to watch!

1: The last band for Sunday in Main support is the excellent ENOS, gearing up to release their second album shortly these lot are going to prove that they are stepping up to the next level, buy their album or ask Father christmas for it so you know how to sing the words!!

2: I AM SO SO EXCITED TO BE THE FIRST MAN TO BRING THIS BAND TO THE UK…. SWAMP MACHINE, They are very new to the scene BUT their song ‘Giant Dwarf’ has not left my head since i first heard and seeing as these guys proudly opened for Gentlemen’s Pistols in their hometown. Coming all the way from the Netherlands i am sure they will tear the place a new one and we will all welcome them with open arms!

3: The mighty BLACK MOTH are headlining the Saturday which i am over the moon about, these guys having been gracing the pages of many a publication and have a massive buzz about them, having already been added onto next years Desertfest i am sure 2013 will be their year so it may very well be your last chance to see this band in a venue of this size.

DEAD EXISTENCE may be one of the most miserable bands around but Guitarist Fred and Vocalist Jake may have just outdone themselves with this one. THE DEATH LETTER is more than just a side project, its a statement of how much talent sits within their midsts. Its both beautiful and depressing all at the same time and Jake has proven himself to be one of the best versatile vocalists in our scene right now by pulling out the complete opposite of his DE vocal style and with quite haunting quality, particularly with the track ‘When I Go’! This is a must for everyone and as I write this they are finishing their support slot with the incredible Scott Kelly of NEUROSIS fame, so they must be doing something very right indeed.

Perfect music for a rainy day after your cats just died and you found out your wifes left you for a much better man and you’ve lost every penny you had!

In this new feature i shall be naming some of the guys that help us underground bands behind the scenes. Obviously with every band comes a lot of other aspects (Promoters, Venues, Merch people etc.) Now one of the most hard working fellas that has certainly produced work for some of the best up and coming bands in our scene is the man behind screen printers GIANT IRON FACE.

I have rarely had a band on one of my shows that i ask back straight away but after seeing TORPOR play their first ever set at the last WPC night i was stunned and very impressed indeed. So much so they are back as any one who was there will know that they just have to be seen. Crushing Haven style riffs and ferocious female vocals, what could be better! and for the first time ever we are lucky to have London mob BAST on board, i have heard so so much about these guys and their live set being a cut above the rest and it was not until the last couple of weeks i first listened to their EP and instantly had to ask them join the party, and so glad they said yes!

So nearly there with the line-up with 2 more added and 2 more left, remember the ones we got left are gonna be goodun, Headliner on Saturday and main support on Sunday!
