SEA BASTARD for the HDP/WPC stage at Desertfest 2013!

After a fantastic set at this years WINTER WARMER WEEKENDER we can finally announce that we have the brilliant SEA BASTARD kicking off proceedings at this years HDP/WPC stage at Desertfest 2013!

More Gargantuan than the Kraken and noisier than Cthulhu himself, Sea Bastard unleash their aquatic Doom upon Desertfest 2013. Featuring 3 members of the much missed Funeral Hag and Oli from the equally missed Jovian this Brighton troop proved that once their efforts were combined the greatest of things can happen, their recent self titled album has been unleashed to resounding praise and has secured itself a vinyl release on local indie label ‘Headless Guru Records’ which will hopefully be due out in time for the festivities. The songs are heavy as hell and frontman Monty sings of Wizards and Orcs galore, this truly is one band that will bring an earth shattering start to a incredibly heavy day at the HDP/WPC stage on the Sunday of the Festival!

Watch the Underworld crumble or as the Dark lord himself would say “Ph’nglui mglw’nafh Cthulhu R’lyeh wgah’nagl fhtagn”.

Diesel King – The Grey Man

DKnewEPsmall

I have been extremely fortunate in receiving the NEW EP from the crushing North London mob this weekend (and rumour has it not even the whole band have heard it yet!).

If you come to the Windmill in Brixton these lot play fairly regularly at my WPC nights and those who have seen them will know they have come on leaps and bounds (or stomps!!) over the past couple of years. In less than a year they have had 2 EPs out so they are damn good at churning out massive songs and killer riffs but now need to be receiving support to ensure they can grow to the potential dominating force that they can be!

This release shows that they have learnt from the small errors on their previous effort, with things like the quiet vocals being put up at a more enjoyable level. And with the opener of ‘Battered Hag’ they prove that they are a band that need to be unleashed onto a bigger audience. They have the Crowbar style riffery to keep the hardest of sludge fans happy but they also have the variety and production value in their songs that can appeal to the wider “Metal” community. This is shown in the track ‘I’m gonna take you to the bank Senator Trent.. the Blood bank’ where they blast through 2 minutes of pure metallic fury with the greatest of ease before settling back into the slow sludge geniusness of ‘Immurement’.

I cannot wait to hear a new set from the boys and lucky for us all we do not have long to wait as they shall be supporting GRAND MAGUS on March 3rd at the legendary Underworld. DIESEL KING were a band built for this venue so get yourself a ticket and keep some pennies in your pocket as you can pick up a copy of this whilst your there and a new shirt designed but the very talented ‘God Machine’.

LIMB – Gift of the Sun

Cover

I think the best thing about LIMB for me is that they marry perfectly together the things that I like about our ever growing genre of sludge… they just have such a good swagger/groove about them and are damn good fun. This release just hurls them into greatness even more as far as i am concerned as the only issue i could have had with the demo was that it could have been considered a little too Raw and Fuzzy. These issues have been completely ironed out in this release and particularly in the title track it sounds so gut wrenchingly titanic alongside that warm and comforting fuzz, and as its Valentines day I use this time to propose to this awesome band… Marry me LIMB!!! You fecking rock!

If your in London DO NOT miss out of the release show for this bad boy, it sounds damn good. Now i just want to get my hands on that beautiful orange wax.
