GROAN have grown! and in more ways than one, they have a brand new line up (leaving only Andreas Mazzareth and Leigh Jones as original members) and they have a much more evolved sound since there last 2012 full length ‘The Divine Right of kings’. I think the best and laziest way to describe this 5 song piece of awesomeness is that it has the same style of the some of the best of Pepper Keenan’s DOWN riffs mixed with the balls out rock attitude of SKID ROW, all in all its a damn fine party metal record and the addition of these new guitarists is a damn fine move paired alongside new stickwoman Zel.

The comedy factor is still there with Mazz’s fantastic lyrics and unique persona, the grand singalong choruses are still present with songs like ‘women of doom’ and ‘Drug Lord’ but this is now been amplified with some extra powerful riffs, particularly noticeable of the raging track ‘Slice of that Vibe’ which for me is the greatest on the EP!

although this is just a 5 song EP, it packs more of a punch than most full lengths I have heard this year and I hope this is a taste of GROAN to come because they sounding larger and tighter than ever!

We already are gearing up for the second release as a special Christmas treat and ahead of the official announcement we thought we would share a little clue with you (See below)

It certainly has been a while, so what better way to remind you of some awesome quality Sludge covers than with good friends LIMB from the recent split that my band GURT did with these groovy London monsters.

This cover is from one of QUEEN’s older and more rarer tracks but the riff that May wrote all those years ago has been given new life and turned into something truly unique…. NICE!

YES YES YES! WAR WOLF are back and this is by far the greatest release yet, the recent split Cassette with SOB STORY proved that things were improving in their no nonsense hardcore crust BUT they truly have out done themselves with this record.

The first album was almost as instant as their appearance on the scene which meant that they had little chance to find their “sound” but with songs like ‘Oxygen Thieves’ and ‘The Upper Hand’ they now prove to mix blackened hardcore and groovy crusty Grind with the greatest of ease, this is an album to get very VERY excited about!

One thing that is apparent with this band is they have a real political message and a massive hatred for all things religious and outdated in today’s society so if you like your music with a FUCK YOU attitude to this antiquated idealism then its another reason to get on this amazing collection of songs.

It appears that SEA BASTARD are back once again and this time its from further reaches of the ocean, not the deepest parts as I think tat is still to come BUT it deeper, darker and all together more horrendous! The pressure down there has taken its toll and has forced them to write some of the most impressive and drawn out songs of their career to date.

It gargantuan riffs and singer Monty’s ever impressive vocals that really make these guys spectacular and rumour has it that the lyrical contact was going to be moved away from the fantasy realms that it seems to lay in but, the stories that are told in these tunes are just as epic as the music itself! TOP MARKS GUYS

If there is one thing that is pretty evident from this new record of theirs its that they need to do a split with CONAN!

I had the same feeling listening to this EP as I had when I first heard the BENDAL INTERLUDE and rest assured it was a bloody good one. RATS are a little bit of everything all thrown into one package and this may be because they are fairly new and still trying to find their feet, but to be honest it does not matter as each song is great and stands out from the previous on this VERY fun 5 song offering!

It has it all from the Chilled out, spooky yet relaxed ‘Intro’ to the Psychedelic riffery of ‘Witch’. The Balls out Rock and roll stomp of ‘Coal Eater’ and the groove laden stoner track ‘Eyes of the Mantra’.

They have well and truly impressed with this first effort, I urge all to go and grab a copy form the link below and don’t be one of those dicks that fails to chuck them a few quid when you download it!

I got sent this EP a month or so ago from new lads STRAUSS and was fairly pleased with their straight up groovy Stoner rock, but as can be seen it was not enough to do my usual thing of jumping straight on this site to rant about it…

Now that is not to say that it is bad because it really is not, its just my tastes have got a little more extreme recently and is not the sort of stuff that I have been listening to of late. Fans of bands like AIC, Kyuss, Soundgarden and even our good friends in Steak will love this balls out Stoner fury as its equally groovy as it is raw and rowdy.

With this being mentioned as their first release it really must be pointed out that this is a damn fine first effort. Most bands fall on the production level when it comes to first release material but this really does hold strong and its that, that does this record proud!

Everyone’s favorite 67% True Doom act GROAN have just released a brand new track from their upcoming EP ‘Ride the Snake’ (artwork pictured above and designed by yours truly!)
