This weekend I saw Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes renew my faith in music TWICE!

This weekend I was lucky enough to see Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes perform twice, both in very different circumstances and it really struck a cord with me as it not only embodied the true feeling and ethics of the DIY scene but it really showed that the idea of a true Rock Star is very much alive and well!

The band have used this week as a way of frantically promoting their Brand New album ‘Modern Ruin’ with a series of shows and appearances all over the UK (well mainly in London and Herts) and with the album self released on Frank’s International Death Cult label it was organized and executed by the man and his band which in its self is an incredible feat. I caught them on Day 1 of their 2 day takeover of Tattoo studio and Artspace Sang Bleu which is apparently where Franks first gig in a band was many years ago and was the latest album got its name due to an Exhibition that was held there at the time. Basically, this place quite clearly means a lot to Frank and it was here that he resided for 2 days Tattooing, selling the new album and playing one of the best shows I have ever witnessed him play (and I have seen many over the years since my first time seeing the Gallows in 2004).
From the moment they exploded onto the very small stage Frank was on fire, despite having the dreaded Man Flu he screamed his tits off, thrashed around like an idiot and crowd surfed and roof walked his way to victory. So many brilliant lines and memorable things happened during this show it really was a reminder of how incredible a frontman this guy is and truly big things are no doubt coming now the new album has hit the world. 2 of the best moments of the 45 minute set were firstly the MASSIVE circle pit that was created for the new song ‘Jackals’ where it exited the front door of the shop, went round the entire block and came back in through the back door of the venue which was something a lot of people never expected to see. Secondly he made a call for more Female crowdsurfers as Women really feel as if they cannot get involved as much as Men and he wants his young Daughter to feel as if she can “rock out” as much as the next person. Cue loads of girls getting involved and getting thrown all over the venue for the next 3 minutes which was a really poignant but manic moment.

The second of the shows could not have been any further from Friday’s performance as it was the complete polar opposite in every way. Yes it was at another small venue (Watford’s LP Cafe) but it was a more chilled out affair, with an acoustic performance, reading of Lyrics and poetry written by Frank and everyone sat down on the floor quietly and in awe like it was some type of “Leonard Cohen type shit”.
This showed a completely different side of Frank Carter with his stories being very reflective and really quite personal yet he was completely relaxed despite still suffering with the dreaded Man Flu! It was this personable and much less frantic side of the man that once again proves that he is a cut above the rest of today’s rock frontmen and is why this guy is likely to be doing this for many years to come.

As you can no doubt tell from this somewhat gushing little bit of writing I have put down here I had a great time at both of these shows and it truly reminded me all the best things about the true DIY scene, from the way this record was released to the feeling and passion that it creates not only to the people that write the music but to the fans that are part of the whole release process.

LONG LIVE DIY!!

A Brand NEW look for 2017!!

As we rapidly approach 7 years of existence we thought we would start the year with a bit of a redesign, going for a much filthier appearance we hope that it reflects what we have planned for 2017.

It combines the awesome Logo design that Dominic Sohor created less than 2 years ago with my own handy work, the full logo design can be seen below and keep your eyes peeled for this on a brand new shirt design which will be able to buy from www.whenplanetscollide.bigcartel.com very soon.

Our other sites will get the same makeover in the next few days!

HDP/WPC Stage at this years Desertfest 2017 COMPLETE!!

The Human_Disease_Promo / When Planets Collide Stage is set to bring an expanse of heaviness together under one roof at Desertfest London 2017

This year we have chosen to embrace our love for all aspects of everything across the heavy spectrum by bringing a killer range of bands to the HDP/WPC stage. Topping of the day we’re thrilled to be hosting the might of heavy weed riff legends Bongzilla as they hit the underworld for a special set of early tracks (focusing on the releases Stash / Apogee / Methods For Attaining High Altitudes), before they head over to the Roundhouse the following day for a set of tracks spanning their entire 20+ years. These will be their first shows in the capital in nearly 14 years, so it promises to something damn special!
As already announced the new England masters of bruise groove Scissorfight are back in action with a new lineup and new material, and they’ll be with us to shake the underworld apart with their signature neck-wrenching riffs too. Joining the proceedings we’re stoked to also have the mind-altering blackened sludge/doom of Richmond Virginia’s Inter Arma with us. Hopping across the channel Celeste will be bringing a dark post metal harshness from Lyon, France to also add to the mele. All the way from San Francisco, doom crooners Brume will make an appearance as their debut London show with a slew of seductive low-end riff magic. Completing the bill, openers Monolithian travel up from the west country to prove that the UK underground takes no prisoners when it comes to gnarly giant sounds with their destructive and filthy two-piece death-sludge mayhem.

All said it should prove to be a day of wickedly heavy proportions, so get ready to pack ’em full and pack tight into the dark depths of the festival as the Camden Underworld is assaulted by the HDP/WPC stage at Desertfest once again in 2017.

2017 is here, and we are back!

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL and it appears that WPC had pretty much disappeared off the face of the Earth for the latter part of 2016, the more eagle eyed amongst you would have noticed that the web site had disappeared completely so sorry about that!

It was a very busy year for me last year and will no doubt be the same this year, however this is no excuse to leave the awesome WPC to rot in the corner so I have decided to pull my socks up and get on with reanimating the label and hopefully start doing some shows again too…

  • Firstly this is going to involve a bit of a redesign of the site and this shall be going on over the next few weeks so we have a fresh NEW look for a brand new year.
  • Most importantly DESERTFEST 2017 is well on its way to being fully completed and with our stage soon to be announced we have already given you a taster of what to expect with the awesome groove sludger’s SCISSORFIGHT coming over to the UK which is a personal highlight for me and a great taster for what’s to come.
  • The label will be resurrected with a Brand NEW GURT album coming in the first part of the year which you need to keep your eyes peeled for over the next few months but for now I am on the look out for NEW and exciting bands to release so if there is any interest please email me at: whenplanetscollide@hotmail.co.uk
  • and finally, more shows will be coming but I have yet to look for a new home for WPC’s Summer and Winter events and slthough it may change quite considerably I have yet to properly look into a new venue so this is something that will happen but I need to spend some focused time on.

One thing I will say for sure, is that there is a lot to look forward to and lets hope that 2017 is going to be the best one yet!
