With a swampy groove and a greasy tongue XII Boar (Pronounced 5 Boar.. he he) have stormed back in our lives with this killer new single which has been released just this week after a shock announcement just 2 weeks prior. I knew a debut album is coming but this is a great way to get the fans excited, expectant and salivating for that collection of new tunes.
It is a fine tune to boot with a stomp and groove very reminiscent to friends Desert Storm yet with the XII Boar’s they do what they manage best, and that’s to add a flair of fun to the song with lyrical tales of making “love” to a wonderful toothless whore at the back of a petrol station. It’s a great return and as mentioned before its just made me all the more excited for the album.
Now for the B-side, when hearing it was a reworking of track ‘Train Wreck’ I initially thought it was potentially a bit of a lazy move just replaying an already killer song on an acoustic BUT how wrong was I!! This really steals the show and is almost unrecognisable from the original, a real sludge lounge classic (that’s if that is a thing)
And what’s more, if the 2 great tunes aren’t enough to get you involved it comes on a wonderful coloured vinyl, it has a CD version of both tracks too (for those amongst us that buy vinyl but don’t have a turntable) and loads of awesome stickers too! And if like me you are a sucker for Trucker caps there is a package that comes with that too do get your hands in your pockets and get spending!
GURT have decided to put their entire back catalogue up on their bandcamp for ‘Pay what you like’ so if you have not got your hands on their tunes yet every single release is up for grabs, might be nice to chuck them a few quid as the debut album is being worked on right now and as you can guess its quite a costly affair!
Their previous 3 EPS, Split with Dopefight and single are available from their BANDCAMP RIGHT HERE.
The Christmas single ‘Little Donkey’ is available from the WHEN PLANETS COLLIDE BANDCAMP HERE.
The Split with LIMB is available from WITCH HUNTER RECORDS RIGHT HERE.

More info on the cassette version coming very soon indeed!
So with 2014 going so well so far its time for yet another new Northern band to join the ranks of ‘When Planets Collide: Presents’ This time its the turn of newcomers NOMAD and their first ever EP ‘The House is Dead’
Nomad are a 4 piece Sludge/doom band who have been active for little over a year, “The House is Dead” will be their first release, in there short time as a band they have had the privilege of playing with some of the genres heavy weights including, Bongripper, Witch Mountain, Conan and Hang the Bastard aswell as gracing the stage at this years inaugural FOAD Fest.
With the release date set to Monday 12th May once again we are limiting this great release to just 50 copies on CD but for the first time EVER we shall be doing an EXTREMELY limited cassette run too, keep an eye out for more on the exact details and pre-orders later this week.
Its been a while since we have had some new music from our friends in XII Boar but they have this killer new release on the horizon and all should get Pre-ordering now as its a top tune thats been part of their Live set for some time now…
Have a look and tease below and get Pre-ordering now as they even have a version that come with a sexy Trucker cap too, it hits the world on March 31st!!
Its no damn secret that I have a great love for LIMB having seen them early on in their career supporting Holy Mountain and screaming their praise for the get go, but for me the best thing was having the chance to become friends with the guys and work with them in producing a split with them and my own band GURT late last year.
So as you can guess I have been aware of this album coming for some time and the wait was so very worth it. The greatest thing is that these chaps and chapess have got that groove that so many bands fall sort on. There is nothing worse than bands over complicating things and the great thing about some of the best Sludge bands is they keep it simple and keep it bouncy and this is where LIMB excel, the opener sets the bar high and carries it on through out. Even with older tracks ‘Daemoness’ and ‘Gift the sun’ (A personal fave for obvious reasons!) making an appearance that constant head nodding can be kept consistant to the point of a mighty achy neck by the end of the 30 or so minute length of this class selection of tunes!
If you need any more persuasion to buy then for this release they have some very special cover art, created by the super talented Richey Beckett, fresh from his work with Metallica and Mastodon. It’s pretty special: intricately detailed and darkly beautiful. The super deluxe vinyl edition comes in a gatefold sleeve, with a heavyweight 180g, green and black vinyl record, plus an insert of the cover art and a free download of the whole album.
So get involved folks and prepare yourselves by PRE-ORDERING RIGHT HERE as the Vinyl is limited to just 300 copies
