About whenplanetscollide

When planets Collide was created by me (Gareth Kelly) as a way of getting together like minded bands that are fans and influenced by the Sludgier, Stonier and Doomier things in life.... this has so far been very successful and with the help of the Windmill in Brixton i have not only managed to get some cracking bands together, but most importantly managed to run nights that mean that the bands are not expected to get people through the door to make the promoter happy but to have a great night and go home with a bit of money in their pockets. London is full of Pay to play venues and together we shall destroy them!!!

Greenhorn – Like Rows of Crooked Teeth

GH Cover

We have had the pleasure of GREENHORN performing at a past WPC event and seeing them live is always great fun. So upon hearing that they had their debut coming out on BLACK BOW RECORDS was a pleasant surprise as I know of the bands love for all things CONAN and for something like this to come their way must really be a dream come true!

The love for this band has really come to an extreme having recorded at Skyhammer studios (Jon from CONAN‘s studio), having Chris Fielding produce it (Now CONAN‘s Bassist) and even having Jon himself lend vocal duties to one of the songs ‘Kentucky Boone’, I think I can be easily forgiven for mentioning that this record does very much sound like CONAN in that it is VERY much an Amp worship, low tone, AND crushing collection of tunes!

There are some great ideas working throughout and Chris’s production duties have made this record really shine but for me its the songs that are faster paced and less like their greatest influences sound that take my interest.

Old track ‘Witchs Bridle’ (which I once performed backing vocals on live) sounds great and it has surfaced under a couple of different releases but this one be by far the greatest… in addition to this the fast paced rager of a song ‘Long Drop’ is an absolute belter too, with these 2 tracks having a stripped down almosts Nu-metal vibe to it, its this that makes it stand out for me. so more of this please and I reckon Greenhorn shall grow to be a real pleasing addition to our very healthy sludge scene.

Get a copy of this soon when it goes up for sale on BLACK BOW RECORDS and make sure you crank that volume dial all the way up to experience the true power of a very pleasing Debut!

Catch them on tour this summer with our boys in DIESEL KING and new boys THUUM.

Profane and the Sacred – Chapter 1: A Long Time Coming

10929130_10152635066042951_720905053315904752_n

What a name for an album, and one that sums up PROFANE AND THE SACRED perfectly as it seems lime its been an absolute life time since these guys started up and only now we get an album!? At least it is here now, and for those who worship at the Church of the Riff shall be very very happy indeed!

This is for fans of balls out riff drenched stoner metal, anyone who loves a bit of DOWN or COC will be more than happy with this offering as it 9 songs of non stop guitar driven madness. There are some great moments of almost TOOL-esque prog rock rock fret work which will make our axe mad friends very chuffed indeed.

But for me it is a little like a lot of other bands around at the minute and I can’t help mention that I wish this had come out a year or so earlier, Its a bit of a silly thing to say as I know what it is like for bands though as costs are costs and it can take a while to be in a situation where you can actually afford to release an album but I did find myself losing attention at the end of the album as I guess my tastes have moved on to the more filthier side of things. This is not a reflection on the song quality though as its very damn good, just not my cup of tea.

You can have a listen for yourself below and pre-order this on CD HERE or Download from HERE
