This is going to be the biggest, baddest and greasiest WPC event yet!! To start off things I am beyond blown away to bring you our headliner for the Saturday RAGING SPEEDHORN, one of the main reasons that many sludge bands that exist today are doing what they are doing, Speedhorn have returned and to see them perform in a 150 capacity venue is a rare opportunity so prepare to see the Windmill absolutely decimated!!

Alongside them comes GURT (it would be rude not to put my own band against one of our greatest influences) and back with a upcoming NEW album are the London filth monsters DEAD EXISTENCE. It has been 2 years since they have played a WPC event so is an absolute pleasure to have them back and with new material in tow!

As with last year we have the Famed Windmill BBQ on the Saturday afternoon and yet to come is a Full Friday lineup and 3 more bands to announce for the Saturday too so prepare yourselves for the greatest SUMMER SIZZLER EVER.

Back in the end of the Nineties I had 3 albums that at the time I did not realise would shape completely my music taste years down the Line, they were by Iron Monkey, Will Haven and Neurosis. 2 of those bands have had countless copy cats over the years but Will Haven never had anyone that would come close (at least not for me) with their life ending heaviness and creative streak that could not be matched….. Until Now!

TORPOR are a band that I fell in love with instantaneously, so much so that I booked them off the back of hearing just one song for one of my WPC nights and it turned out to be one of their first live shows with the line up that you see today. I loved them so much I booked them for my next show and would quite happily have them on any bill that I put together, so to say that I was looking forward to this album is quite an understatement.

Starting proceeding with 10 minute opener ‘from This Time’ this track has been in their Live set for some time and its crushing heaviness and incredible build up is captured perfectly on record with producer Wayne Adams (Death Pedals, Shitwife, Ladyscraper) knowing exactly how to get the best out of this band. Every song completely matches (and exceeds) the creative bleakness that Will Haven have had on albums like ‘Carpe Diem’ except they have the amazing dual vocals of Nat and Jon which just makes this a near perfect record for me.

It is worth noting too that I love a good Female vocalist that can scream like a monster and Nat is high up there on my list of favourites, Nats vocals have improved so much on this record too compared to their initial release back in 2012, this is highlighted on track ‘Abandon’ which is so immensely heavy and the low guttural roar of such a small young lady is quite unnerving. This for me is a track that I have yet to hear live and shall be very much looking forward too!

In conclusion, this is quite possibly the longest review I have written for some time which shows how excited I am about this release… Its Crushing, Creative, Mind Blowingly Heavy and a Damn Masterpiece.

This is a lot more balls out “Metal” than anything I would normally select for this site BUT the song writing on this 3 track taster from new band UNEARTH THE KINGS is so damn good that it is an instant choice for the first BAND OF THE WEEK of 2015!

The main reason for such great song writing is no doubt due to the teaming up of Owen Packard from EARTHTONE9 and the awesome drumming skills of Jason Bowld of PITCHSHIFTER , 2 titans of metal from the UK scene of the late 90s and together they have introduced a massively promising band which you can guarantee will do well, and it would not surprise me at all to see these guys pop up on the bill at this years Download festival.

For now though, very little is known or said about this band so go give it a spin, its catchy, infectious and fun!

The Quietus stage is back this year again at the Underworld and quite frankly it Perplexes me and make me feel quite out of touch with things.

The ever long BONG are back which is great news to see them at the Underworld and WPC favourites PALEHORSE too but other than that I am pretty much lost so thankfully I will have the chance to catch some new music that hopefully I will like some of!
