So it is glaringly obvious that there has not been much going on with this site of late but a lot is coming over the next few months. 3 releases are planned, The WINTER WARMER is soon to be announced for 15th and 16th January 2016 and this brand new feature is starting that shall recap the best releases briefly reviewed each month!
One thing that is hard is to keep up on the sheer amount of awesome EPs, Splits and Albums that come out, especially if you are a one man operation and as always I shall be taking a handful of the ones that appeal most to the ethos of WPC and saying my piece. This months one shall show you the best over the last few months starting with:
Awesome collaboration between 2 previous favourites of WPC, Manchester once again proving that it doe shave a ever growing Sludgy pool of great talent! 3 Songs from each band and they go together very well indeed, WORT being one of the most vicious acts in the UK and their glaringly obvious Weedeater influence is bettered by Collins incredible vocal ability. As for NOMAD they have simple yet brutal Down inspired riffs with yet another gravel swilling vocalist… A great split for fans of filthy hate filled Sludge!

MORASS OF MOLASSES – So Flows our Fate
An interesting first offering from Reading Riffers MORASS OF MOLASSES, these guys have had an incredible start to their career including an appearance at this years Bloodstock Festival. These monstrous chaps are often referred to as a Sludge band and although the influences are there I really think more of bands like Alice in Chains when listening to this offering, Wielding 2 Baritones but no Bassist I feel that it is somewhat lacking with the lack of rumble but the riffs more than make up for that… certainly ones to watch!

VICTORIAN WHORE DOGS – Hobo Chic
What a great EP from yet another Reading based “Sludge” band. Again these guys in VICTORIAN WHORE DOGS have that filthy sludge capacity but with the simplicity of the riff being the key to their charm this reminds me of some of the greater Nu Metal bands of the early 90s.. This is in no way an insult as the groove is mighty but it really proves the similarity between modern sludge and the Nu Metal of old! Danny’s throat slitting vocal style and bizarre stage presence is a sight to behold and I really hope to get these guys to a WPC show soon!
LIMB are one of the best bands around in our UK scene at the moment and to see them back and bringing their party vibe ridden ‘Goatslade’ sound is a real breath of fresh air, with so much similarity with my own band GURT (we did a fecking Split together for this reason) it is truly heartwarming to see them come back with such a massive improvement on what was an already stonking debut. Definite highlight of this album is the beastly ‘Mortuary Teeth’ which is one of the best heaviest songs to come out this year. Although it was sad to see Jodie depart from the band last year, their new Sticksman Thomas has added more energy and helped create an impressive party inducing vibe within the group.. Long live LIMB!
If you want to hear any of these 4 mighty offerings, click on the band name to link through to the releases, and WPC shall see you in the next month for another few slabs of awesome tunes!!
