Despite the long long wait that loads of people have been gagging for, there always seems to be a group of trolls that label a new album from a band like this ‘SHIT’ before they even have a chance to listen to it and when they do hear it there still comes a fair moans from every corner of the Internet…. Those people can do one!
This album is magnificent, and mainly due to the fact that they have not tried to re-invent the wheel (and bear in mind Sabbath invented the wheel!) they have just had Iommi pull some great and simple riffs out of the air as he does with the greatest of ease, and have Butler add the groove with his nicely balanced rumble underneath. Even the man who everyone says has ‘past it’ adds some killer vocal lines over the top. The lyrics are very dark here and often appear quite reflective, and no surprise seeing what the band have been through to get this out in the world.
And I even feel that Rubin has done well on this one too, the production is great and noticeably better than some of his most recent efforts. But I think that this is due to keeping it simple, no bells and whistles are needed here and its with bands like this that he does best, the balance is great and it sounds absolutely incredible when cranked up on the turntable.
Its worth noting that they even have the obligatory rain sound effects at the end, WELL DONE SABBATH KEEP IT UP!!
