Diesel King – The Grey Man

DKnewEPsmall

I have been extremely fortunate in receiving the NEW EP from the crushing North London mob this weekend (and rumour has it not even the whole band have heard it yet!).

If you come to the Windmill in Brixton these lot play fairly regularly at my WPC nights and those who have seen them will know they have come on leaps and bounds (or stomps!!) over the past couple of years. In less than a year they have had 2 EPs out so they are damn good at churning out massive songs and killer riffs but now need to be receiving support to ensure they can grow to the potential dominating force that they can be!

This release shows that they have learnt from the small errors on their previous effort, with things like the quiet vocals being put up at a more enjoyable level. And with the opener of ‘Battered Hag’ they prove that they are a band that need to be unleashed onto a bigger audience. They have the Crowbar style riffery to keep the hardest of sludge fans happy but they also have the variety and production value in their songs that can appeal to the wider “Metal” community. This is shown in the track ‘I’m gonna take you to the bank Senator Trent.. the Blood bank’ where they blast through 2 minutes of pure metallic fury with the greatest of ease before settling back into the slow sludge geniusness of ‘Immurement’.

I cannot wait to hear a new set from the boys and lucky for us all we do not have long to wait as they shall be supporting GRAND MAGUS on March 3rd at the legendary Underworld. DIESEL KING were a band built for this venue so get yourself a ticket and keep some pennies in your pocket as you can pick up a copy of this whilst your there and a new shirt designed but the very talented ‘God Machine’.
