Blaak-Heat-Shujaa

I have decided to take a look at both of these fine offerings alongside each other as I was given the first album by BLAAK HEAT SHUJAA quite some time ago at one of the WPC shows but upon receiving The Storm generation was when I finally had chance to give them a listen.

The first thing that 100% of stoner rock fans will notice about both of these little beauties is that they were produced (and recorded) by the mighty Scott Reeder which for most people is enough to know its going to be damn good. For me though I need a lot more persuading as my favour lies in the more filthy side of things!

They are both very desert drenched in sound but with the first offering being much more psychedelic in feel and more generic sounding. this is not a bad thing as its a damn good listen BUT its the Storm Generation that gets my attention more. Its a much mightier sound and very technical in approach almost coming across like a stoner version of MARS VOLTA meeting the Progressiveness of greats like YES at times, the best example of this can be seen in opening track ‘The Revenge of the Feathered Pheasant’. The guitar playing is fantastic on both efforts and technically hypnotic which definately does work for me, its not quite as dirty as i would normally like but its dreamy and bluesy and very much worth a listen.

Just make sure you are suitably stoned before giving these ones a go!
